Abstract

Mobile Truck Tankers are essential for distributing Crude Palm Oil (CPO) to meet industrial and community demands. However, 40,000 L CPO tankers often leak due to sloshing, which creates internal pressure, forces, and moments. Baffles are needed to mitigate this issue. This study provides design recommendations and optimizations for leaking tankers. The methodology involved analyzing tank wall thickness, fluid motion (sloshing), structural strength, material service life, and baffle effectiveness in reducing sloshing. The aim was to minimize leaks in CPO Mobile Tankers. Results show that fluid forces are a primary cause of leaks. The optimized design enhanced structural strength and extended service life from 24 to 28 months—a 17% improvement over the existing design. The most effective change is adding baffles at critical high-force points, serving as a key recommendation for tanker improvements.
